PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT

The first step of the public involvement process began with the Notice of Intent publication in the Federal Register on December 14, 2007. Three open house scoping meetings were held on January 29, 2008, in Havelock; January 30, 2008 in Jacksonville; and on January 31, 2008 in Holly Ridge, NC. Materials disseminated during the scoping period are available for review.

The next step was the Draft EIS Notice of Availability published in the Federal Register on July 17, 2009. On that date, the EIS was available for review at local libraries and posted on this website. This date also marked the start of the 45-day Public Review and Comment Period, which ended on September 1, 2009. During the 45-day review period, three public hearing meetings were held to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the Draft EIS, August 18, 19, and 20. Availability of the Final EIS was announced in the Federal Register on December 11, 2009. Volume 1 (Final EIS) and Volume 2 (Appendices, including public comments on the Draft EIS and USMC responses to these comments), are available for downloading and review at this website. Paper copies can be reviewed at the following libraries:
